College Football Week #2 Recap

With the second week of college football in the books, the BCS picture already seems to be forming, as Ohio State and Alabama have emerged as the clear favorites at this point. But did they make the list of the three biggest story lines of the weekend?
1. Better late than never. It took Virginia Tech a week longer than they wanted, but the Hokies may have destroyed Boise State’s National Title hopes. With a 21-16 defeat at the hands of D-IAA James Madison, Virginia Tech not only dashed their crystal ball hopes, but took the Broncos’ with them. Now, Boise’s best regular-season victory in years looks, well, not so special. The Broncos stayed at #3 in the coaches’ poll, but the distance between them and #2 Ohio State grew.
2. The weekend was pretty much a disaster for the ACC as a whole. Their marquee programs were taken out one by one, and right now, the conference looks wide open.
Aside from the Hokies, #18 Florida State spent 60 minutes getting flogged by Oklahoma, leaving Norman with a 47-17 loss and eliminating Christian Ponder from any Heisman talk. Then #12 Miami turned the ball over four times and had one offensive touchdown against the Buckeyes in a 36-24 defeat and #15 Georgia Tech was beaten by a Kansas squad that scored three points to a D-1AA school the week before.
The Hurricanes are the only ranked team left in the conference, which had five schools ranked in the preseason.
3. Michigan may have found their quarterback of the future. Denard Robinson gashed Notre Dame for a school-record 502 yards and scored the game-winning touchdown with less than a minute to go as the Wolverines beat the Irish 28-24. Robinson has been so good, through two weeks, he leads the NCAA in rushing with 455 yards. Michigan is ranked #22, one of five Big 10 schools in the top 25.
