David Letterman's Education Background

David Michael Letterman was born April 12, 1947 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He is the son of Harry Joseph Letterman, a florist, and Dorothy Letterman, a Presbyterian church secretary. Letterman has one older sister, Janice, and one younger sister, Gretchen.
Letterman attended the local high school, Broad Ripple High School. He wanted to go on to Indiana University, however, his grades were not high enough. He then decided to attend Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. At Ball State, Letterman became a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He graduated in 1969 from the Department of Radio and Television. Letterman registered for the draft and passed the physical after college graduation. He was not drafted for service in Vietnam due to receiving a draft lottery number of 352 out of 365.
Letterman’s career in broadcasting began in college as began in campus radio broadcasting. After college, Letterman began as a anchor and weather man for a local television station, were he gained notability for his off-beat on-air personality. He was encouraged to move to Los Angeles to attempt to further his career.
In 1975, Letterman made the move to Los Angeles to become a comedy writer. He did just that and more. Letterman wrote comedy, began performing stand up comedy, and appearing in comedies on television. Eventually Letterman had become a regular guest host for The Johnny Carson Show.
Late Night with David Letterman debuted February, 1, 1982. Being known for his crazy on-air antics, and guest interviews, the late night talk show has thrived since. The show switched networks in 1993. Now on CBS, the show was titled, The Late Show with David Letterman.
Letterman is also a producer. With is company, Worldwide Pants, he has produced many comedies and shows. Currently Letterman is married to Regina Lasko and the couple have one son, Harry.
