Deepak Chopra's Education Background

Deepak Chopra was born on October 22, 1946 in New Delhi, India. He is the son of Krishan Chopra, M.D. Krishan was a prominent Indian cardiologist. Chopra completed his primary education at St. Columba’s School in New Delhi and graduated from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. Chopra immigrated to the United States in 1968. He began his internship and residency training at Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield, New Jersey. Chopra had residency terms at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Massachusetts, and at the University of Virginia Hospital. Chopra earned his medical license from the state of Massachusetts in 1973. He also received a California medical license in 2004.
Chopra’s board certification is in internal medicine while he is specialized in endocrinology. He is also a member of the American Medical Association, a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, and a member of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.
Early in his career Chopra taught at the Tufts University and Boston University Schools of Medicine. Chopra was named Chief of Staff at the New England Memorial Hospital in Stoneham, Massachusetts. Eventually Chopra established a private practice.
Chopra primarily focused on endocrinology until the early 1980’s. Chopra took an interest in alternative medicine and shifted his focus. In 1985 Chopra began working with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Yogi was the developer of the Transcendental Meditation technique. Yogi was also the leader of the popular Transcendental Meditation technique movement. Chopra served as Yogi’s top assistant.
In the late 1980’s Chopra branched out and began his own career. He has published dozens of self-help books since the late 1980’s. The publications include Chopra’s new age spirituality and alternative medicine philosophies.
Chopra’s main messages is that by ridding oneself of negative emotions and developing intuition by listening to the body, health can be improved. Chopra has claimed that slowing down or reversing the aging of the mind through his methods can increase one’s lifespan up to the age of 120 years.
