Ellen Kathleen Pompeo was born on November 10, 1969 in Everett, Massachusetts. She is known for playing the title role, Meredith Grey in ABC’s show Grey’s Anatomy.
After graduating from high school in Everett, Pompeo moved to Florida. In 1996, Pompeo was bar tending at the SoHo Bar and Grill in New York City when an agent approached her about being in commercials. Pompeo was able to break into minor television roles and eventually film. She made her studio screen debut in 2002. She starred in Moonlight Mile and also has a minor reoccurring role on Friends.
Pompeo landed the major role of Meredith Grey in the early 2000’s. Since the show has continued for 7 seasons and Pompeo has received a Golden Globe Nomination for her work. In 2007, she signed a contract with Grey’s Anatomy that brought her salary to $200,000 per episode.
Currently Pompeo is married to producer Chris Ivery, and the two have one daughter.
