Few Upsets Loom in Week 7 of College Football Season

Those of us hoping for major shakeups in the college football polls this weekend might be disappointed. There are only two games between ranked opponents, and many of the elite teams don’t have tough match-ups.
Nonetheless, here are the biggest match-ups of the week:
1. #1 Ohio State at #16 Wisconsin– I suppose this game being at Camp Randall makes it an upset possibility, although the next decent team Wisconsin beats will be their first. The Badgers are coming off a rivalry game victory over a dreadful Minnesota team, but this OSU team is a heck of a lot better. The Buckeyes are coming off a thrashing of a decent Indiana team, and have won in Wisconsin before.
2. #13 Arkansas at #7 Auburn– If you’re looking for a more likely upset of an unbeaten team, this is probably it. The Tigers have had a number of close calls this season, most recently surviving Kentucky 37-34. Any team needing overtime to beat Clemson at home is at risk against Arkansas. The Razorbacks have had their share of close calls as well. Ultimately, however, Auburn’s win over South Carolina, plus the game being at home, makes me think the Tigers have an edge.
3. Texas at #4 Nebraska– This is the last time these two rivals will face off as conference foes, and the Huskers would love to go out with a win, after narrowly losing the Big 12 Title Game to the Longhorns’ last season. Earlier this season Nebraska’s athletic marketing department produced a video that encouraged fans to: “Wear Red, Be Loud, Beat Texas.” Frankly, it shouldn’t be too challenging. Texas’ offense, especially the running game, has struggled this season, and while they did nearly beat bitter rival Oklahoma last week, a letdown seems inevitable.
Other games that could wind up being more important than you think: #21 Nevada at Hawaii, Illinois at #11 Michigan State.
