George Lopez' Education Background

George Lopez was born on April 23, 1961 in Mission Hills, Los Angeles, California. Lopez was abandoned by his mother and father at birth. He was raised by his maternal grandmother, Benita Gutierrez, a factory worker, and step-grandfather, Refugio Gutierrez, a construction worker.
Lopez worked as an actor in his early career. He starred in minor roles in the early 1990s. In 1999 Lopez was given a radio hosting job in Los Angeles, California. He was the first Latino to headline a keystone morning radio slot on an English-language station in Los Angeles. The morning radio slot is the nation’s top radio market.
Lopez also spent many years as a stand up comedian. After several years of performing, Lopez was contacted by actress Sandra Bullock. Bullock wanted for Lopez to produce and star in a comedy sitcom. Lopez went on to co-create George Lopez. The show is an American situation comedy that aired on ABC from 2002 to 2007. Lopez is not only the co-creator but a writer, producer, and the star of the show.
Today Lopez hosts a late-night television talk show titled Lopez Tonight. The show debuted in November 2009. Lopez has earned multiple honors for his work and contributions to the Latino community. In September 2004, Lopez was given the “Spirit of Liberty Award” presented by People for the American Way. In August 2005, Lopez was recognized as one of “The 25 Most Influential Hispanics In America” by Time Magazine.
