The weather outside is getting a bit chilly, and you know what that means… fall football and high school homecoming dance season is just around the corner!
September 9-16, 2010 in Manhattan the infamous Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week shows were held at the event’s new venue location, Lincoln Center, and designers didn’t disappoint with the gorgeous dresses they showcased at the world’s most talked about fashion event.
While most of the gowns will be worn by Hollywood starlets to the Grammys and the Oscars, there will be a substantially high number of teenage girls wanting the looks for their homecoming dances this coming fall.
This year, “less is more” seemed to be a common theme, as the dresses were shorter in length but bigger in designs. It was apparent that bright and bold colors were the biggest trends, followed by textured dresses and sharp tailoring.

While most of the designs were just plain with solid colors, about a fourth of the dresses shown had patterns engulfing the entire garments.
Accessories seemed to be almost non-existent, clearly letting each garment speak for itself. The dresses were also consistently paired with simple stilettos as to also not take away from the dresses.
Most of the models sported slicked back hair do’s down the runways, but for teenage dances, you may want to glam it up a little and try big curls to keep a young, clean, fresh, and fun look.
After factoring in hair and makeup appointments, shoes and even minimal accessories, homecoming can be very expensive. So if these looks are a little out of your budget, be sure to check out the outlet stores in your state or your local department store for sales! Betsey Johnson has outlet stores nationally, including Texas, Florida, New York, and Vermont. BCBG Maz Azria has Final Cut, an online outlet available no matter what your geographical location! And if you are still struggling to justify splurging on a dress, it is just one outfit for one night, so stopping by Macy’s or Maurice’s and browsing their racks for some couture copies is a great compromise.
