How to Grow a Garden

With fall and winter approaching, you’re probably trying to absorb as much fresh air and sunlight as possible. Instead of having that dorm looking lifeless this winter, consider growing something green in your dorm, and no, I’m not referring to that mold in the refrigerator. This time of the season is also the best to decorate your garden with flowering plants, and possibly with some furniture (see some top rated options). But if you have a disheveled garden or trees leaning onto power lines, you need to start with pruning the branches set in a precarious angle. Of course, you might need the help of tree service removal to get the job done. But if it’s just the hedges that need some pruning, there are lawn care companies selling Cordless Strimmers in the UK, and you probably can order one online.
Finding the best .095 trimmer line is important to ease and fasten your trimming work. All the different trimmer lines from all these brands have their own unique features and different performance levels. The shape and diameter of a line trimmer usually determine how fast and effective you cut your weeds and grass. While choosing the best trimmer line, you should check how thick your grass and weeds are, and the size of your yard.
Herb gardens are perfect because they are easy to take care of and they grow perfectly out of any planter. And if you love to cook, then you can really appreciate an herb garden, especially since buying herbs from the grocery store can be rather pricey. Plus, fresh herbs taste better than dried ones.
Whether you just want some nice greenery, or are looking to cut back on your produce bill, follow these steps to create the perfect dorm garden. You won’t be needing a lot of gardening tools, but when you decide to start growing a larger one, having a set of the basic tools including a wheelbarrow will save a lot of time and effort. Head over to BestOfMachinery for garden tool guides and reviews, they also published gardening advice and ideas to keep the new hobby fresh.
Here’s what you’ll need:
1. A large, deep planter
2. A plastic tray to catch excess water
3. Soil-less potting mix
4. A drill
5. Herbs/seeds/bulbs
6. Water
7. Sunlight
Start out by finding a planter, and get creative with it. Virtually anything with a bottom can be a planter, but for this particular garden, you will want to find something that is at least ten inches deep. Consider used paint cans, colorful waste bins or an old dresser drawer. Using your drill, you will have to poke or drill holes in the bottom of your planter of choice to prevent water from overflowing. You can get a cordless drill on https://occupythefarm.org if you don’t have one. It will be a very good investment that can do a lot of things. You will also need to find a plastic tray to place at the bottom to catch excess water.
Once you have found the perfect planter, you will need to purchase some herbs or plant seeds from a nursery. Thyme, basil, and sage are easy to take care of if you are going the herb route.
When you’re ready to plant, fill the pot with soil-less planting mix, about three inches from the top, and water the potting mix lightly before planting the herbs.
Dig a small hole, at least six inches deep, and then remove one of the plants from its nursery container. Place the plant in the hole and pack roughly an inch of dirt on the top of the roots. Do the same with the other plants, leaving a one to two inch gap between the plants. Water the herbs again once your finished, but be sure to do it sparingly. Herbs don’t grow well in wet soil.
Place you herb garden on a window sill, and water your garden whenever the plants start looking saggy. Be sure to remember that these plants do best when they get at least five hours of sunlight a day.
When it’s time to cut them for cooking, trim the leaves and stems off the tops first, not the sides. If you take care of them, your garden should continue to grow for you to use and enjoy.
