John Grisham's Education Background

John Grisham, Jr. is an American author who is most famous for his intense legal thrillers. Many of his books have been bestselling novels in the USA, including “The Firm,” “The Pelican Brief,” and “The Summons.” EDUinReview will now take a look at the education background of this talented author.
Grisham was born on February 8, 1955, in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He is the second of five children born to John Sr. and Wanda Grisham. The family moved quite often while Grisham was young, due to his father’s job in the construction industry. They finally laid down roots in Southaven, Mississippi when Grisham was four-years old.

Grisham loved playing baseball and dreamed of being a professional baseball player. He attended Northwest Junior College and Delta State University, where he played baseball but never fully dedicated himself to his studies. After two years, he decided to become a serious student and transferred to Mississippi State University. He studied accounting and earned his bachelor’s degree in 1977. Then, he enrolled in law school at Ole Miss with dreams of becoming a tax lawyer. However, while he was studying law, he realized he was more interested in criminal law, which he decided to make his specialty.
After school, Grisham joined a law firm and practiced law for 10 years. It was while he was practicing law that Grisham began writing as a pastime. Many of his books are inspired by things he saw in the courtroom, including his first novel, “A Time to Kill.” To date, Grisham has written 25 books and 10 have been adapted to full-length films.
