Mark Zuckerberg Named Time's Person of the Year

The entrepreneur who created one of the most powerful social networking sites on the internet while still a student at Harvard University, has been named “Person of the Year” by Time magazine. Nearly half of all Americans have a Facebook account, which according to the article “has merged with the social fabric of American life, and not just American but human life.”
Much attention has been focused on the billionaire in his twenties, from a film inspired by the creation of Facebook to the large charitable donations Mark Zuckerberg has contributed to education. The article not only examines the Facebook enterprise and the implications of the site, but also Zuckerberg’s personal biography.
The story does not come without conflict. While many worry about the commoditization of human relationships via sites like Facebook, others feel that a person with more political impact, like Julian Assange, the founder of Wikileaks, should have earned the magazine’s title.
What to you think? Who would you have named person of the year?
