Michael Gamdon's Education Background

Sir Michael Gamdon is an Irish actor who was born on October 19, 1940. Gamdon is a highly respected theater actor and is also well-known for his work in television and film. Gamdon will reprise one of his most famous roles this November when he portrays Albus Dumbledore in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. EDUinReview will now take a look at the education background of this talented actor.
Gamdon was born in Dublin during World War II. After the war, his father decided to move the family to London in order to find a job. Gamdon became a British citizen when he moved to London, which later allowed Gamdon to receive his knighthood, instead of the honorary knighthood that most Irishmen would receive.
Gamdon attend St. Aloysius Boy’s School, a Roman Catholic school in Somers Town. He also attended St. Aloysius’ College in London. He discontinued his formal education at age 15 and started attending drama school at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London when he was 18. At age 27, he began working for the Birmingham Repertory Company. While with Birmingham, he received his first chance to play the title roles in Othello, Macbeth, and Coriolanus.
He has been nominated for and received many awards for his work over the years, including a Tony Award for Best Actor for his performance in Skylight, theCritics’ Circle Theatre Award for Best Actor for his performance in The Caretaker, and the Irish Times Theatre Award for Best Actor for his performance in Eh Joe.
He first portrayed Albus Dumbledore in 2004 in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban after Dumbledore’s original actor Richard Harris died. Although Albus Dumbledore died in the sixth Harry Potter movie, Gamdon will continue to portray this character in the next two Harry Potter movies.
The first Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movie will be released on November 19, 2010 in the U.S.
