Michele Bachmann's Education Background

Michele Bachmann is an American politician and a member of the United States House of Representatives. She represents the state of Minnesota and was previously a member of the Minnesota State Senate. She is currently in the public eye for being one of the contenders for the 2012 Republican nominee for President of the USA. EDUinReview will now take a look at her education background.
Bachmann was born on April 6, 1956, in Waterloo, Iowa, but the family moved to Minnesota when she was young. She was raised by her mother, Jean, after her parents divorced and her father, David, moved to California. When Bachmann was a teenager, her mother remarried and the family grew to include nine children.
Bachmann attended Anoka High School and graduated in 1974. She then moved to Israel and worked on a kibbutz. She then returned from Israel and attended Winona State University, where she earned a B.A. She attended Oral Roberts University‘s law school, where she received a J.D. degree in 1986. Two years later, she received a L.L.M. degree from William & Mary School of Law in tax law.

Although Bachmann grew up in a Democratic family, she changed her political views and became a Republican while she was a senior at Winona State. Some of her early political activism included supporting Jimmy Carter in 1976 and joining the pro-life movement. In 2000, she was nominated to be the State Senator for Minnesota District 56 and won the seat in November of that year. In 2006, Bachmann was elected to represent Minnesota in the U.S. House of Representatives. She is the first Republican woman to represent her state in the House.
Bachmann is currently a front-runner in the race for Republican presidential candidate after announcing her plans to run on June 13, 2011. Here are some of political positions:

  • Education- Bachmann supports teaching intelligent design in public schools.
  • Fiscal policy – Bachmann opposes minimum wage increases and supports domestic drilling of oil and natural gases.
  • Social issues- Bachmann supports a constitutional amendment that would ban same-sex marriages. She is also a pro-life supporter.
