Mira Sorvino's Education Background

Mira Sorvino is an American actress who is possibly best known for her role in Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion and Mighty Aphrodite. EDUinReview will now take a look at her education background.
Sorvino was born on September 28, 1967, in Tenafly, New Jersey. Her parents are Lorraine and Paul Sorvino; she also has two siblings, Michael and Amanda. Sorvino’s father was an actor and director but he did not want his children to follow in his footsteps. However, Mira had her own ideas and started acting as a young child in neighborhood plays with her friends. In high school at Dwight-Englewood School, she also acted in many theater productions. After high school, Sorvino studied East Asian Studies and graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University. Also while at Harvard, Sorvino also co-founded the Harvard-Radcliffe Veritones, a co-ed a cappella singing group.

After college, Sorvino moved to New York City in order to pursue an acting career. In 1993, she became involved with the movie Amongst Friends. At first, she was only hired on as the third assistant director, but eventually, was promoted to landing the lead role in the movie. Two years later, she earned her claim to fame in Woody Allen’s movie, Mighty Aphrodite. She earned both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe award for Best Supporting Actress for this role. In 1996, she portrayed Marilyn Monroe in the HBO movie, Norma Jean & Marilyn. The next year she was on the big screen again when she co-starredwith Lisa Kudrow in Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion.
Recently, Sorvino has been starring in independent and lower budget films, such as Human Trafficking, a Lifetime movie for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe. Since 2009, she has starred in Attack on Leningrad, Multiple Sarcasms, and Union Square.
On a personal note, Mira met her husband, Christopher Backus, at a friend’s party. They were engaged less than a month after meeting and were married on June 11, 2004. Their first daughter, Mattea Angel, was born on November 3, 2004, followed by a son, Johnny Christopher King, on May 29, 2006.
