Natalie Portman's Education Background

Pint-sized powerhouse actress Natalie Portman was born in Jerusalem, Israel, on June 9, 1981. She is the only child of Avner Hershlag and Shelley Stevens. Portman’s family moved to the U.S. when she was three years old. Portman has been quoted as saying she “really love[s] the States… my heart’s in Jerusalem. That’s where I feel at home.” EDUinReview will now take a look at the education background of this talented young actress.
Portman attended a Jewish elementary school, Solomon Schechter Day School in Glen Clove, New York. She attended public high school at Syosset High School and graduated in 1999.

Portman has always been very dedicated to her studies. She skipped the premiere of one of her first major films, Star Wars: Episode I, so that she could study for her final exams in high school. Her dedication to her studies did not end in high school. Portman graduated from Harvard University in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. She later attended graduate school at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
“I don’t care if [college] ruins my career,” Portman said. “I’d rather be smart than a movie star.”
Portman has had a diverse and successful acting career. Her first major film was Léon, aka The Professional. She later stared in the new Stars Wars movies, Where the Heart Is, Closer, and shaved her head for her role in V for Vendetta. She has won several awards, including the 2002 Teen Choice Awards for Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, the 2005 Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress in Closer, and the 2007 Saturn Award for Best Actress for V for Vendetta.
Portman’s newest movie, The Black Swan, will be released on December 3, 2010 in the U.S.
