Online Procrastination is a Useful Study Resource

Midterms are finally over but now it’s time to start studying for finals. Already.
It seems like all I’ve done this week is pour over my notes from the first two-thirds of the semester, trying to jog my memory about the English Reformation from the Catholic Church in the 1530s or mass media law and the Supreme Court.
But right now, my brain is fried, so I decided to get online and visit my favorite procrastination websites. Of course, my favorite website to avoid my studies is EduInReview.com, but when it comes time for a desperate study break, I turn to the following websites for some much needed procrastination.

I always check Facebook and Twitter. But let’s be honest, you can only check out other people’s websites for so long, then it’s time to decide if you want pure entertainment or something that forces you to be interactive.
When you want to be entertained, these websites are always good for a laugh. Visit them when you just realized you have been cramming for the wrong test and need to either laugh or cry hysterically.
1. PeopleofWalMart.com is definitely worth a visit. It always surprises me what crazy outfits people come up with, and then actually wear into public. If you haven’t visited this site yet, make sure you check it out soon. I promise you will laugh.
2. MyLifeIsAverage.com includes stories about pop-culture on this website, so if you have seen the Harry Potter series or read the Twilight books, it will also surely make you laugh.
3. Cracked.com offers obscure compilations of random information that, after reading, you will wonder how you ever lived without. Some of my favorites include “The Six Cutest Animals That Can Still Destroy You” and a flowchart called “How Women Shop for Shoes.”
If you feel like being more active during your online procrastination, check out these games:
1. Farmville on Facebook is an awesome game. The concept is kind of silly: Grow some crops and milk some cows to earn points, but it is strangely addictive. I really like competing with my friends to see who has reached the highest level and who has the most animals.
2. Google sudoku or crosswords includes plenty of websites that allow you to play your favorite newspaper games, anytime and anywhere.
3. FreeTetris.org allows you to play Tetris online, for free. Tetris might be one of the most common procrastination games online. You don’t really accomplish anything, but there is just something very fulfilling about lining up those blue, yellow, and red blocks.
Online procrastination is a great way to give your brain a break from all the studying that comes along with finals. Just try not to get sucked into the endless world of online gaming and get back to your studies as soon as you harvest your crops, learn about cute animals, and laugh at other people’s funny outfits.
