Penelope Cruz's Education Background

Penelope Cruz is a Spanish actress who is possibly best known for her work in Vanilla Sky, Blow, and Sahara. Her next venture on the big screen will be in the fourth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean series, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, with Johnny Depp and Ian McShane. EDUinReview will now take a look at the education background of this beautiful actress.
Cruz was born in Alcobendas, Community of Madrid, Spain, on April 28, 1974. Her parents are Encarna Sanchez and Eduardo Cruz. She has a younger brother, Eduardo, and a younger sister, Monica. As a child, Cruz did not have any interest in becoming an actress; instead she focused on classical ballet and spent nine years studying the dance at Spain’s National Conservatory. When she was a teenager, she then became interested in acting after seeing a movie by Spanish director, Pedro Almodovar. When she was 15-years old, she was signed by an agent and made her acting debut the next year on television.

Her first movie to hit the big screen was Jamón, Jamón, which was released in 1992. She was nominated for the Goya Award for Best Actress and the Spanish Actors Union Newcomer Award for her work in this film. She acted in several other films, but her next major film was Woman on Top in 2000; this was her first lead role in an American movie. However, it was the next year, in 2001, when she really made her breakthrough in American film when Vanilla Sky and Blow were both released. After that year, Cruz became a household name. Some of her other famous movies include Volver, Vicky Christina Barcelona, Nine, and Sahara.

On a personal note, Cruz speaks four languages: Spanish, Italian, French, and English. She began dating her husband, Javier Bardem, in 2007. The couple married in July 2010 in the Bahamas. Cruz gave birth to her first child, Leo Encinas Bardem, in January 2011. She was pregnant with her child while she was filming Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Luckily, she was able to use the elaborate costumes typical of Pirates films to hide her baby bump during filming.
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will open in the USA on May 20, 2011.
