Rush Limbaugh's Education Background

Rush Hudson Limbaugh III was born on January 12, 1951 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He is the son of Rush Hudson Limbaugh, Jr., a lawyer and U.S. fighter pilot, and Mildred Carolyn “Millie” Limbaugh. Limbaugh graduated from Cape Girardeau, Missouri Central High School in 1969. Limbaugh enrolled in Southeast Missouri State University but left after two semesters and one summer session. Limbaugh was not drafted during the Vietnam War draft lottery. He was also classified as “1-Y” due to a Pilonidal cyst.
Limbaugh’s radio career began even before he graduated high school. He began broadcasting in Missouri under the name Rusty Sharpe in 1967. After Limbaugh left college he immediately went into the radio business. He hosted several types of radio formats through the years, from Top 40 stations to sports radio.
On August 1, 1988, Limbaugh moved to New York City and began his national radio show. Limbaugh began his talk-radio show on WABC, 770 AM, and this remains his flagship station today.
Limbaugh’s radio show airs for three hours each weekday from noon (EST) on both AM and FM radio. The radio show is also broadcast on the Armed Forces Network.
As of 2001, Limbaugh had an eight year contract. earning him $31.25 million a year. In 2007, Limbaugh earned $33 million. In 2008, Limbaugh signed a contract extension through 2016 that is worth over $400 million, breaking the records for any broadcast. Limbaugh’s fame stretches beyond his hosting duties. He is viewed as a conservative political opinion leader in the United States. He is also a best-selling author and has published two successful books, The Way Things Ought to Be (1992) and See, I Told You So (1993). Limbaugh broadcasts out of West Palm Beach, Florida, where he lives with his fourth and current wife, Katherine Rodgers.
