See Ya, Sooners: Oklahoma Loss Highlights Week 8 in College Football

For the third straight week, the #1 team in college football went down, as Oklahoma fell to Missouri, making the BCS picture a little more cloudy.
Highlights from week eight:
1. Missouri gets past nemesis— The Missouri Tigers had been snakebit when it came to the Oklahoma Sooners, losing 19 of their past 20 games to their Big 12 rival. But for the second straight week, the country’s top team allowed the opening kickoff to be run back for a touchdown and Missouri ripped off 16 straight fourth-quarter points and took home a 36-27 win. The victory means the Tigers are in control of their own destiny in the conference, but they have to survive an upcoming trip to Lincoln, and a probable rematch with the Sooners in the Big 12 Title game.
2. Can’t stop Cam— Even though they did a markedly better job than Arkansas (at least in the points column), LSU’s defense couldn’t stop Auburn’s Cam Newton. The Heisman leader ran for 217 yards and two scores as Auburn edged Les Miles’ crew 24-17. Newton spearheaded an attack that had over 500 yards of total offense, and LSU’s weak quarterback play finally caught up to it. The win vaulted the Tigers to the top spot in the BCS standings (more on that in another post) and set up a showdown with rival Alabama in the Iron Bowl.
3. Ok, take the ball (just kidding)— The Big 10 race continues to be determined by special teams and trickery. This weekend, two teams used fake punts to secure critical victories and keep their Rose Bowl hopes alive. At Northwestern, Michigan State pulled their fake down 24-14 in the 4th quarter, with Aaron Bates–the same player whose touchdown pass on a fake field goal beat Notre Dame–completing a 21-yard pass to set up a touchdown on the next play. Michigan State won 35-27 to run its record to 8-0.
In Iowa City, Wisconsin ran a fake punt on their own 26, and Brad Nortman waltzed 17 yards for a first down. Eleven plays later, the Badgers punched in a touchdown and picked up a huge road win, 31-30. Wisconsin still needs a pair Spartan losses to make it to Pasadena, but the door is open
