Tattoos and Piercings on the Rise Among Teens

Today, more and more teenagers are getting piercings and tattoos as a form of self-expression.
As far as piercings, many teenage girls are getting their noses, belly buttons, lips, tongues and eyebrows pierced. Although, most girls get their ears pierced when they are 1-2 years old by a doctor. Guys are piercing their eyebrows, tongues and lips, as well.
For tattoos, boys usually get arm sleeves or larger tattoos, while girls stick to the more small and dainty ones. The most common new trend is the wrist tattoo for girls and for both boys and girls, the rib cage tattoo is on the rise. But, teenagers need to be especially cautious when getting tattoos on their hands, wrists or face because they cannot be concealed while wearing work attire.

Another factor teenagers need to consider is the high risk of contracting an infection from tattoos and piercings themselves and the continued risk if not cleaned properly every day. At a time when teenagers are balancing school, extracurricular activities, and after school jobs, piercings and tattoos become yet another daily routine to remember, and I can’t even keep my room clean without being reminded by my mom.
If you’re prepared to make the commitment, by all means! But, while tattoos may be cool, trendy and popular now, teens you should consider what the trends will be when you reach adulthood.
