Tim Pawlenty's Education Background

Tim Pawlenty is an American politician. Most recently, Pawlenty has served as the Governor of Minnesota from 2003 to 2011. He also served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1993 to 2003 and is a possible candidate for the Republican Party’s nominee for President of the USA in the 2012 election. EDUinReview will now take a look at his education background.
Pawlenty was born on November 27, 1960, in Saint Paul, Minnesota. His parents are Virginia and Eugene Pawlenty. His mother died from cancer when he was only 16-years old. He attended South St. Paul High School and played ice hockey for the school’s junior varsity team.

After high school, Pawlenty originally wanted to become a dentist so he enrolled at the University of Minnesota. However, he started interning at U.S. Senator David Durenberger’s office and developed a new-found love for political science. In 1983, he earned a B.A. in political science from the University of Minnesota. Pawlenty then continued his education to earn his Juris Doctor from University of Minnesota’s Law School in 1986. He was the first person in his family to graduate from college.
Pawlenty’s first job was working at Rider Bennett as a labor law attorney. When he was 28, he entered the political sphere when he was elected to serve on the City Council. In 1992, Pawlenty became a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives. He was re-elected to this position four times. In 2002, he made plans to run for governor and won the position. He was re-elected in 2006, winning by a margin of less than one percent.
Pawlenty first began taking steps that many thought would lead him to a 2012 presidential bid in 2009. In March 2011, he made an announcement on Facebook that he was forming an exploratory committee to see if he should run for the 2012 Republican Presidential nomination. On May 23, 2011, he officially launched his candidacy for President during a speech he gave in Iowa.
On a personal note, Pawlenty met his wife, Mary Anderson, while he was in law school. The couple married and then moved to Eagan, Minnesota, where they still live. They have two daughters, Anna and Mara.
