Top Best Neighbor Colleges Revealed

Community Service was one of the factors used to determine the "Best Neighbors" schools
Colleges can have a big impact on the lives of citizens who live in the cities where their college is located. Sometimes this can be a bad thing. Imagine a small town trying to accommodate the 10,000 students who attend its college: traffic jams, more litter, crowded public places, etc.
Fortunately, the opposite can also be true. The presence of a college in a town can be very beneficial. Colleges can revitalize an area, increase community service volunteering, and serve as a cultural renewal.

A recent survey conducted by Westfield State College identified the Top 25 “Best Neighbor” Colleges and Universities in the U.S.

The Top 5 “Best Neighbor” Colleges and Universities are:
1. The University of Pennsylvania and The University of Southern California tied
2. The University of Dayton (Ohio) and The University of Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania) tied
3. Indiana University-Purdue
4. Creighton University (Nebraska)
5. Case Western Reserve University (Ohio)
The survey used to determine the Top 25 “Best Neighbors” is called “Saviors of Our Cities” and has been published annually since 2006. The survey includes a questionnaire and discussion section and is based on more than 20 years of research. The criteria used to determine the winners included: length of involvement with the community, continued sustainability of neighborhood initiatives, and catalyst effect on others.
